Popped out for a visit to the new playground in the Meadows today. It was heaving, just about every kid in Edinburgh between 2 and 10 was there, and contention for most amusements was high. It's still pretty cold too, so we gave up after a while and decided to pop into Borough for a wee drink and a sit down. Very nice it was too.

New Stripey Dress
Shopping yesterday, mainly for a new set of jammies for Helen, but also for this new dress for Holly. We had a nice afternoon in town, even after we discovered the playground in Princes St Gardens was being rebuilt. Instead, we spent a while watching the trains go in and out of Waverley, and waving at the drivers. Some waved, one even honked!

Goggles
Saturday morning, and time for a bath with mummy. Also time to try on some goggles. "Everything is blue" announced Holly, while I struggled to get the camera to focus. Helen decided to stay out of the pictures for some reason...

A New Park!
There's a rather splendid new play park just opened at the east end of the meadows. It's like five parks in one, as if the planners couldn't decide which one to buy from the catalogue and just got one of each. We visited this morning and had a splendid but brief time there, as there was a bitter, howling westerly wind sweeping across the meadows. Hence the closed eyes and windswept hair...
Big Bed
During a visit to John Lewis on Friday afternoon to pick up some baby essentials, Holly expressed a strong interest in the beds on display in the kiddies' department. Balking at John Lewis' ambitious pricing, we took ourselves on Saturday morning to our favourite Swedish purveyor of warehouse furniture, and picked up a big bed for Holly. She was very excited about it, and road tested it in the living room. First night in the big bed went well (albeit still in the grobag rather than under the duvet) and she was happy to sit for a couple of wet-haired pictures after breakfast on Sunday morning. We await the early-morning knock on the door with trepidation...

Testing the Baby Bath
Bathtime tonight, and Holly's been rummaging in our growing pile of baby things. Tonight, it seems, is time to road test the baby bath. I dutifully pop it into the big bath and fill it up. Holly steps into the bath and, like Archimedes, discovers the principle of fluid displacement but resists jumping out and shouting "Eureka!" This pic is of Holly's "say cheese" face - it's a bit overexposed but there are more in the slideshow. Unfortunately the pictures all expose the rather grotty grouting that's been on my "to do" list for - ohhh - five years now...

Red Tractor
Another day at Grandma's, another phone pic. This time it's the red tractor at Gorgie City Farm, the picture all Edinburgh children are required to have taken by law.

Koya Moments
This is nothing to do with Holly or any of the Millars, but it's one of the few things I've come across on the internet in general that I've felt compelled to share. I came across it on the BBC. It's a beautiful six minute time-lapse film shot in and around Edinburgh over the course of two years, and is just the sort of film I'd love to make if I had imagination, talent, patience and nothing better to do with my time.

Weekend Visitors
Catherine & Matt were up visiting this weekend, and we had a very busy time rushing about, so much so that I didn't even get the camera out until Sunday. Also joining us for brunch were Pete, Anna & Leo, Keith and Daisy. Papers were read, dinner was eaten, fairy costumes were worn, and gingerbread men were made. We're knackered now! Click the pic for a selection of pics throughout the day.

One month (ish) and counting...
For a while there, it looked like beanie was breech, which would have pretty much knocked the home birth plan on the head. Helen visited the midwife on Monday, and beanie seemed to have turned around but Helen was measuring a bit small. We got another scan today just to check, and the actual measurements are just fine. Lo and behold, beanie is also head-down, and the head's well into the pelvis too, so it's very unlikely he/she will shift now. Hooray! Here's a fairly ropey (low light photo of the scan printout) pic of beanie's face in profile. Click on the pic to go to flickr where I've put notes on the image so you can tell what's what.

Chocolate Ice Cream
Saturday morning, and it's become a bit of a routine to pop into the ice cream shop near Tesco. Holly has a Luca's chocolate ice cream, mummy has a capuccino and daddy has hot chocolate. Special guest for the day Kate has a double espresso and an egg roll. Lovely. Then - with a certain inevitability - off to the "funny little park" and the big swing to try to make it all come back up again.

Painting with Kate
So Kate's visting, and mummy's gone out with her workmates - that's her off on maternity leave now. Time to get out the paints Niall and Laura gave Holly for Christmas and make a proper mess! The two pots you see started as yellow and blue. Painting turned into mixing, and mixing turned into chaos. It was hilarious. Then we got cleaned up and had a little bit of quiet time with Aunty Kate before bathtime.
Proto-teenager
Found these in the camera from the 18th. Can't remember the occasion, but we think these pics give a little taste of the girl Holly's going to grow up into. Cheeky little monkey...
