Dance loomed large on the agenda today. This morning, Holly attended her first ballet class at the local Scout Hut. So enthused was she by the experience - and eager to return next week - that we headed into town to buy her a wee pink leotard, a little dance skirt and some ballet shoes. We also managed ice creams in Princes Street Gardens. Holly is over the moon, it's lovely to see her so engaged with the idea - we shall see how long it lasts!

Two Champions!
Ahem. This week, by virtue of being BT's "cycling champion" I met Chris Hoy, fresh from his clean sweep at the Beijing Olympics, and very much the man of the moment. He was doing some kind of London 2012 thing at BT, and I was ushered into the great man's presence for a photo-op. Like everyone else says, and just like he comes across on TV, he's a really nice, humble, down to earth guy. And an incredible cyclist. He even remembered me from the pre-Beijing Bike Breakfast. The event was commemorated in BT's house newspaper (online version) with a quote from me which was entirely made up by the writer - click to see it full-size and readable. Or here.

August Catchup
Well, it's been a while. What with one thing and another, we've been remiss both in taking and posting pictures. Here's a wee catchup from the last couple of weeks, including bike trailering, showering, gardening, climbing hills and paddling at the parliament. Again.

Catalogue Man
Before the barbecue on Sunday, we popped round to the local park for a wee play on the climbing/sliding/clambering thing. Louis loves it here, and particularly enjoys climbing *up* the wee slide. Here he is in a pensive moment, gazing manfully towards the horizon and looking very grown-up in his wee 3/4 breeks and polo shirt.

BBQ Millar Style
More barbecue pictures, courtesy of Scott this time. Note humourous juxtaposition of summery elements - shorts, flowers, barbecue - and umbrella. Welcome to Scotland.

Cutting Cake
Laughing in the face of the Scottish summer and its less-than-sunny disposition, we held a barbecue on Sunday in honour of Auntie Ann's birthday, and of course as an excuse to get the family together for a laugh. In fact we did pretty well with the weather, only retreating inside once the rain got *really* heavy. As chief (and novice) barbecuista, I completely failed to take any pictures, so here are Niall's.

Blue Skies and Sunshine
Another Monday at home with the kiddies, and we popped around to the local primary school where Holly will go next year. They have some nice wee playground things to play on, a nice open grassy area, and a wee stage to which Holly was drawn like a moth to a flame. She's a born performer, and treated Louis and I to a wee al fresco dance. That afternoon, Holly and I made pipe cleaner figures (of which I am inordinately proud) while Louis slept.

A Fairytale Wedding
Pete, Anna, Leo and Nate came down on Sunday to meet up with Paula and Dave (who were also in town) and have a spot of lunch at the new homestead. After a considerable period of rummaging in Holly's dressing-up box, we were presented with the scene you see here. This is bread-and-butter stuff for Holly, but Leo seemed to be experiencing a strange mix of pride and acute embrarassment. Needless to say, this photo will be securely stored in a safe place until his 18th/21st/graduation/wedding (delete as appropriate).
Bathtime Again
I've got a new phone, kindly donated by Dave after he splashed out on one of these. By way of a test, here's a wee picture of Louis enjoying his bath. No matter how tired he is, he always perks up in the bath! As with most bath shots, you'll need to be in my flickr friends & family (and logged in to flickr) to see it.
