Back To The Park

The sleet relented a little this afternoon, so we headed to our old stomping ground, Victoria Park, something of a blast from the past. Bikes were ridden, swings were swung, and bars were dangled from. Holly even made temporary pals with a random ginger girl.

Holly's writing is coming along nicely. So much so that she's started to practise on her own body. And Louis'. And he's happy to reciprocate. This morning's body art session (you'll need to log into flickr to see it all, so to speak) ended in a bath, which immediately turned purply-brown with all the ink. Every bath toy in the house was co-opted, along with a couple of pairs of goggles. It was all good harmless fun and a nice way to pass a dreich February morning before meeting up with the Evanses.

Papa's Birthday

Papa Gordon was 21 again this week, for around the 50th time. We all headed out to the Sun Inn at Lothianbridge near Eskbank, and had a rather nice lunch. Louis was particularly impressed with the seafood, and is pictured here tucking into a selection of mussels and some weird things that looked like eyes. Laura and Michelle did sterling service entertaining the kiddies while the other grownups succumbed to post-prandial lethargy before a quick, muddy stroll along Lady Lothian's Path. There were naked shenanigans that morning, but you'll need to be logged into flickr to see that picture. More pictures from Niall here.

Caveman Dave

One of Louis' current favourite bedtime books is Caveman Dave, and he was delighted to have the *real* Dave there to read it to him.

Bikes & Ballet

Here we have three weekends' worth of wholesome activity. The first saw us riding the bikes down at Cramond. Don't be fooled by the blue sky and sunshine, it was - as ever - on the chilly side. A week later, and Holly decided to use Louis as a ballet dress-up doll. He didn't seem to mind. And last weekend, we visited our old stamping ground at Victoria Park. It's brilliant for cycling, flat with lots of intersecting paths and good visibility. The kids can head off into the distance and still be in sight. After several tours of the park, we took off on a long (3km) loop of the cycle path, returning just as it was getting dark. Strong riding from all concerned!

I've Got A Bike, It's A Very Nice Bike

Last weekend, Holly was invited to Evie's 6th birthday party, probably the beginning of a long run of 6th birthdays this year. Louis wasn't *officially* invited, and in any case preferred to be out and about on his bike. We slipped out of the party and popped across the road to the local primary school for a bit of bike practice and I snapped a few short clips on the phone.

Ally Bally Bee

Hot on the heels of Holly's Hairy Feet, Louis got in on the act with this charming rendition of the traditional Scottish song Ally Bally Bee, or part thereof.

Hairy Feet

The breathless introduction is "Ode to a Spider" by Sheena Blackhall. This a wee poem Holly learned at school for Burns night, and we had an impromptu recital this weekend.

Jammies
