Not Quite But Almost

WP_20170128_15_26_14_Pro.jpg

Louis and I finally found a slot in our busy weekend schedule to set out for the Forth Road Bridge. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side, and the driving wind and horizontal sleet were too much to endure. Soaked to the skin and numb about the extremities, we limped into South Queensferry and took refuge in The Little Bakery until Helen came to pick us up. Still epic, in its own way.

Forth Bridge Recce

WP_20170109_16_09_55_Pro.jpg

The last Monday of the holidays, and not great weather. Louis and I were talking about where our next cycling epic should take us, and we decided on the Forth Road Bridge. In an attempt to just get out of the house for a bit, we drove to the bridge and walked halfway across to get a feel for it. Holly refused to come and stayed in the car.

Krispy Kreme or Bust!

Krispy Kreme or Bust!

We went out for a spin on Louis' new bike. Krispy Kreme at Hermiston Gait was deemed a suitably challenging but achievable objective, and Louis rose to the occasion admirably. Once rejuvenated with a doughnut and the largest hot chocolate in the world, he even opted to take the longer, hillier route home to make a 26.3km total.

Down in the Derbyshire Dales

Down in the Derbyshire Dales

Happy New Year! We spent a few days with some chums staying at the Peak District Holiday Barn over new year. The usual suspects, it was us and the Evanses, the McKees, the Gipson-Sokoloffs and the Chisholms. It was nice just hanging out and eating and drinking and having little outings. We had a nice - if somewhat chaotic - dinner at the Bull's Head in Foolow. We visited Eyam, a "plague village" where the villagers deliberately isolated themselves from the rest of the world when the plague struck in the 17th century. We climbed Peter's Stone in Cressbrook Dale. And we had a few pints in the weirdest little pub in the world.
