Easter Is ... a poem by Louis

Easter is not
Butter coloured petals
Reaching up to eat the sun's rays
Neither is it
Flowers reaching out of the cold soil
To grasp at the cold air
It's certainly not
A storm blowing against your face
But a nip of warmth inside your body
It's definitely not
Joyful kids gathering at the top of the hill
Watching eggs gently roll away
And it's not even
Troll-face-green leaves
Growing picometres bigger every second
Easter  is
Chickens, cows and sheep reproducing
Children playing outside
And the Sun finally beaming in the violet-blue sky

My Life - a Guest Post by Holly

MY LIFE

Chapter 1

My Family

There are 4 people in my family. My mum, my dad, my brother and of course me. I am the first of 2 children. On the 1st of July 2004 I was born at 1:33 am. I am 4/8 Scottish 3/8 English and 1/8 Irish. My dad is Scottish and he is called Fraser Millar. my mum's name is Helen Millar (she was Helen Lodge before she married ). she spent 12 years of life in Essex but moved to France and came back again many years later.
My brother Louis was born on the 6th of April (the same day as my mum) 2007. He is 3 years younger than I am. He goes to the school I used to go to (D’mains) and he is in p5. I also have an older cousin called Callum who goes to Abertay university and 2 younger cousins Skye and Farrah. Skye is 8 and is in P4, Farrah is 8 months old.
I am lucky enough to have 2 complete sets of grandparents. My dad’s parents live in Edinburgh they are called Sheila and Gordon. My mum's parents live in Essex and they are called pat (short for Patricia ) and john.

Chapter 2

My First Day At Primary

I went to Davidson's Mains primary. A week before my first day at primary I got ready for school! I had woken up put school uniform on, went downstairs only to find school didn't start for a week.
I was very excited and when the day finally came I woke super early and put on my crisp new school uniform. I walked down stairs and had a big bowl of my favourite cereal. My mum washed my face and brushed my hair. then I put on my smart new school shoes and grabbed my pre-packed hello kitty school bag.
I had a big crowd to walk me to school I had my 2-year-old brother, my mum, my dad and my grandma and grandad all the way from England. I skipped all the way there but when I got there I froze up and clutched onto my grandma's arm. slowly my grandma tried to coax me off her arm but my eyes had already filled with tears. then out of the corner of my eye I saw a girl I knew her  my mum had made me go sit next to her on a bus and we had got talking. Like that, I let go of my grandma's arm and we skipped off together.
I walked down to the playground and we lined up together. miss Hay our the teacher (who is now Mrs Reid )came out and we were welcomed into our new classroom. We called out the register and everyone was here (I don't think that's happened since ).
Elisha ( the girl I met on the bus ) and I got chosen to take the register to the office we followed a pupil support assistant to the office. we looked around like toddlers. soon we got back to class and before you could say P1 it was finished and the next 7 years went just as fast.

Chapter 3

Learning To Ride

I was 5 and ¾ when I learnt to ride a bike without stabilisers. oddly enough this was the same day my brother Louis learned to ride a bike with stabilisers.I had been practising for a bit on our local cycle path with my dad pushing me but I had not yet been successful.
We were at my grandma’s house in Essex. opposite her, there is a large sloped field with a maze and playpark at one end called the common. We had brought our bikes in the car and I decided to try my luck at cycling without stabilisers down the grassy slope.
Nervously I stood at the top my brother beside me ( he had stabilisers ) and we patiently for the people to pass "3, 2," my dad counted down. "WAIT,”I screamed "Grandmas not here "so my mum ran over the road to get her.
So we all stood to wait for the people to clear then suddenly with no warning my dad gave us both a push. Quickly I started to pedal. I WAS DOING IT! out of the corner of my eye, I saw an ice cream van I better get an ice cream for this I thought. soon I reached the bottom (my brother had fallen off )I grabbed my bike and ran up the hill screaming “want ice cream, I want ice cream ‘

 Chapter 4

My Hobbies

I have always had a few hobbies but these are the ones I still do today.
The earliest hobby I still do today is drama. I started when I was 7. Since then I have been in 6 drama shows with that group which are an Aesop's fable show, chitty chitty bang bang , Oliver, Annie, the cat trap (the drama teacher wrote it ) and Charlie and the chocolate factory. I have also done 2 concerts and a show in the fringe, Bugsy Malone. this year I have also got into a midsummers night dream through school, in the king's theatre and I am also in Annie in the fringe.
Another hobby of mine is baking. maybe I should say this is my longest going on hobby ever since I can remember I have been baking. since I was 9 I have been baking cakes for Free Cakes for kids it's a cake baking charity where people voluntarily bake birthday cakes for kids who aren't fortunate enough to have a birthday cake.
When I was 9 I also started a judo class. I am now 9th mon and I am getting my green belt soon which is 10th mon. I hope to get my black belt one day but you have to be 18 before you are legally allowed to be awarded a black belt.
Another hobby of mine is guides.I started as a brownie but I am still on my local rainbows list! I now go to Cramond guides and go to guide camps 2-3 times a year.

Chapter 5

Pets

I have had quite a few pets. my first pet was a present for my 5th birthday. it was a fat ginger excuse of a hamster. she lived 3 years which was surprising considering I rarely fed or cleaned her. my mum must have done! the reason we choose her was because she was the only awake hamster in the shop. I don't think I ever saw her awake again ! she loved to pay dead and we almost buried her alive on countable occasions. she would also bite you whenever you picked her up unless you had picked her up multiple time before.
After that 1 Christmas later  I got a fish tank when I was 11 ½. I started with two fish called bubbles and squeak. bubbles got sucked into the tank filter so we got 2 more fish and squeak was flushed down the loo. I  have no idea what the other fish were called but they both got the flush. I was kind off of the fish by then. I think we went through about 3 more sets of fish but I don’t know their names and bubbles lived on . when bubbles finally died she got the privilege of being buried in the back garden with princess. the other two fish got the flush and we never got any more.
When I was 11 ½ one Christmas we (my brother and me ) got 2 pet mice. Minnie and snoopy. Minnie was mine and snoopy was Louis. they were by far my favourite pets. Sadly mice do not live for a long time. Minnie died on the 6th of December. Snoopy also died on the 15th of march.

Chapter 6

Skiing

When I was 8 ¾ we went to the French alps on a ski trip it was 10 years since my parents had last skied but I loved it. by the 2nd day, I was out on piste. we normally go around Easter. slowly the group we ski with has grown we started with 10 then 15 then 20 then 24. this year there will only be 14 though.
Recently in high school, I have started ski club on a Tuesday after school at hill end. before I started I had never been on a dry slope before! I still am not very good at skiing on the dry slope.
I am excited for the Easter break as we are going skiing for the 5th time. we are going to France and the resort is amazing because it has loads of glaciers and lots of good blacks.
I definitely prefer skiing on snow to dry slope. Though part of skiing for me is the social aspect . some of my closest friends are in that ski group though we only see them once or twice a year we are still super close and we are a bit like one massive skiing family and I wish we could ski in France more.

Chapter 7

The Fringe

As I mentioned 1 year I was on the fringe. I was 9 at the time so I was one of the youngest so I didn’t get a big part but I did get some lines.
As I mentioned earlier I was in Bugsy Malone and if you have ever seen it you will know it is about 2 rival gangs fat sams and dandy dans. Fat sams gang is hopeless and dandy dans gang invent a splurge gun `and they have loads of fights but ends up as friends in the end.
I was in an audition scene and I got a few lines and I was the only one on stage (for about 1 minute) my part went like this … ‘I can juggle with not one not two but three balls’ (chuck balls into air and let fall then pick up two ) ‘I will try with two’ (chucks them into the air lets fall) ‘I’ll try with one ‘ (throws ball into air then catches and screams ) ‘LOOK ,LOOK IM JUGGLING WITH ONE BALL' ( then a girl would say and I would pick up the balls and go backstage. Wasn’t much but I felt like a movie star because I had a proper costume and a microphone.
The production was rehearsed for 2 weeks and performed 6 times.
Like most people my favourite scene was the ‘splurge ‘ fight at the end . it evolved the whole cast on stage throwing shaving foam pies at each other squirting silly string and party poppers but it all went too quickly

Chapter 8

My Future

When I am older I want to be a vet because of my love of pets (bar fish!). To do this I hope to get into Glasgow university. I would also like to have A LOT of pets. I am not sure about getting married or having kids, though.
In the more near future, I would like to get a black belt in judo. if I can’t be a vet I will combine my love of animals and my love of baking to make an animal treat business and do animal sitting during the day.
I would also like to continue acting but as a part-time job or hobby. I also want to carry on skiing hopefully with the same group.

Jambos Kickback

Jambos Kickback

As luck would have it, I found some pictures of Louis' outing as a Hearts Half Time Hero at Tynecastle back in October. They waved flags at the start, played mini games on the hallowed turf at half time, and got a lap of honour to muted applause from the home team faithful.

Man of The Match

Accies Tournament

RHC Cougars had a tournament at Edinburgh Accies today, in a distant dĂ©jĂ  vu of the time we went to see Calum playing on the same pitches 8 years ago.

The Cougar P5s worked hard, and played well against some seriously well-drilled teams from the city's independent schools; Stewart's Melville, Linlithgow (admittedly a town rather than a school), Heriot's and Accies themselves.

Louis was (to these parental eyes) the man of the match; he was in among it and there or thereabouts all the time, and had several good runs, most of which ended only when three or more of the opposing team wrestled him to the ground.

In the end, he scored five of the team's six tries. Not bad going.
