Scott has posted pictures of his 40th birthday meal last Wednesday. There are a couple of Holly and Louis in there, but you may need to have a flickr account and be Scott's Friends and Family to see them...

Uncle Scott is 40 again!
Proof, if any were required, that others did better than I on the photography front. Here's a picture from Papa Gordon of Holly having a wee moment of amour propre in her new dress.
Uncle Scott is 40
I only managed one decent picture, but lastnight the Millars (and de facto Millar of course) assembled in honour of Uncle Scott's 40th birthday at Howies restaurant in town. Holly and Louis had a great time running around with ten-year-old cousin Calum. Where does the time go?
I'm sure others will have done a better photo job and I'll post links as and when they surface.

That Was The Weekend That Was
A bit of hoovering and general hanging about on Sunday, then glorious sunshine on Monday, so we went to the Botanics in the morning and kite-flying in St Mark's Park in the afternoon. Three trips in the bike trailer in one day - rising fuel prices don't matter to cyclists!

Back To The Old Routine
Nothing much on this weekend, so a normal Saturday morning trip to Tesco, the funny little park and the ice cream shop. Louis did his first bit of cross-dressing and looked lovely in his wee pink dress. Afterwards, Holly and Helen made animals (and one alien) from a kit of fuzzy balls. Later on in the afternoon when the weather had improved, we all headed off to the park so Louis could practice his walking.

Lodges and Museums
A flying visit from the Lodge grandparents this week. Helen and I scooted off to work as always, Pat stayed with Louis and John Lodge took Holly on the bus to the Museum, where she dressed up in the well-worn "princess dress" among other wholesome and educational activities. Later that evening, much fun was had by Holly and Louis pushing each other about in the wee toy pram.

Testing The Political Water
Whisper it - spring seems to have arrived in Edinburgh. The sky is blue, the trees and flowers are in bloom, and the wind seems slightly less chilly than usual. Like good heliophilic Scots, we duly shed our outer garments and headed for the seat of Parliament to paddle in the newly ice-free decorative pools. Pete, clearly under the dizzying influence of the sun on his head, invited us up chez Evans for a barbecue lunch, and a fine time we had there. We observed, nodded sagely and took mental notes on the general theme of how we'll do just this kind of thing when we move to our new grown-up-house-with-garden in six weeks time. Louis, in the meantime, has been practising making a mess with his food, and is slowly refining the technique for getting at least *some* of it in his mouth.

Parents Like Us
Pat was in town this weekend, and we all headed of to the smugly-titled Parents Like Us event on Leith Links. It's not smug at all, just lots of nice kiddie-related activities. Holly was desperate to have her face painted and Helen queued patiently while Holly took a spin on the carousel. On reaching the front of the queue, Holly unfortunately got what might generously be called the "trainee" face painter, but was delighted with her butterfly nonetheless. Elsewhere, Louis got stuck - no pun intended - into miscellaneous gluing in the making things tent.

Return to the Beach
Best weather of the year so far, so Holly was outside in the garden having breakfast by 7:30 am. We waved Helen off to work (shame, it was a Bank Holiday today but she didn't get it) and pottered around in the sunshine. After Louis' nap we headed back to Yellowcraig(s). The sun shone all day, the wind was light, the beach wasn't too busy and both kids had a great time in the sand and surf. Just a shame Helen wasn't there. We didn't leave until nearly 4, and poor wee Louis was knackered. They'll sleep well tonight.
