We visited Grandma & Papa Millar on Monday to say "good luck" to Papa on his operation, as we'll be on our way to Saffron Walden on Wednesday. Grandma and Holly did a bit of reading, and I liked the lighting in this shot, and the fact that Holly's attention is elsewhere... probably on Papa in the kitchen.

Back To The £400m Paddling Pool
Another sunny Sunday, and again we meet up with Leo and family, and ditch the swimming in favour of wholesome outdoor pottering outside the Scottish Parliament, followed by drinks and snacks in the Queen's Gallery café.

Let's Go Fly A Kite
At last, an ideal day to fly a kite. The sun is out, it's reasonably warm, and there's a light breeze. Out comes Eddy the Dolphin, holly's bithday kite. After a bit of running about and yanking the line, we get Eddy above the trees in Victoria Park, where the breeze is a bit stronger and more consistent. Holly takes to kite flying like a duck to water, but soon hands over to Helen while she does a bit of experimental dance on the grass.

Tummy Time
On a level surface, and with a favourable wind (so to speak), Louis can now roll onto his tummy. Once he's there, he seems quite happy with his new view of the world and will lift his head up and look around, even managing a smile or two for his mummy's camera.

Granton Has A Beach?
Who'd have thought it? After helping me to repair a puncture on my commuting bike this afternoon, Holly announced she'd like to go to the beach. Time was short, and Louis was still napping after a bout of teething pains, so I took Holly down to Granton. It's a funny little strip of sand between the breakwater and the sea wall, and there's plenty of what might euphemistically called flotsam and jetsam, but Holly had a great time making sandcastles, splashing in the water and spotting discarded underwear from a safe distance. Home for tea, and she did us all proud by tucking into a salad and eating - with enthusiasm - watercress, spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, feta, avocado and a light vinaigrette. She balked at the olives, but what a great wee eater!

A Parcel From Canada
Saturday morning (after Helen had fed Louis and Holly had similarly fed Julie), and just as we were getting ready for a relaxed weekend with no parties to go to, a ring at the doorbell announced the arrival of a parcel bearing the evocative words "Par Avion". Holly wasted no time getting torn into it, right on the floor of the bathroom where Helen was immersed. She was delighted as ever, and I was hard pressed to get a camera out in time for her to undress her new teddy bear, christened "tutu" for no obvious reason. Later, she introduced Louis to "Sophie le Giraf" and he's looking forward to getting his putative teeth into her. Later that morning, Holly also introduced Louis to the delights of the big swing at the "funny little park". A nice day.

Holly The Photographer
Okay, so she's not exactly Annie Liebovitz yet, but Holly's figured out how to push the button on Helen's camera. Here's a selection from her snaps this week, what you might call a photo essay on Louis' bedtime...

At Home on a Tuesday
A relaxed moment on the settee, and Helen took the opportunity to snap a few pics of Louis in his bright white babygro. Later on, Holly returned from nursery and jumped into her favourite nurse's uniform.

Summer on a Sunday
Summer came to Edinburgh today, and we dropped the usual Sunday morning swim in favour of hanging out in front of the Scottish Parliament like a bunch of tourists. The sun was hot and the pools were cool, so Holly and Leo duly disrobed and got paddling. I'm not sure it's what Miralles had in mind, but we paid for it, and might as well get some use from it. After that, it was back home to make pizzas and then off to Ollie's birthday party in Barnton, where the sun continued to shine on the festivities and the pizzas.

Party Season Rolls On
Another busy weekend of 3rd birthday parties, this time it was Ronan and Adam's turn to have a joint party at Almond Valley farm. We had soft play and a remarkably well-behaved sit down meal, then off around the farm on the back of a tractor to check out the animals, the pond, the swings and the bouncy castle. Back home, we all did a nice bit of hanging out in the back garden while the sun still shone.

Louis on the Settee
Pick a relaxed moment, arrange a couple of cushions strategically, and little Louis can sit up on the settee all by himself and look a lot older than his tender three months...

Sunday Swimming
Another busy day, starting with the usual trip to the Commie with Leo and family, where Holly and Leo posed photogenically in the group changing room. Then off to Borough to meet Dave and Paula, who are in town this weekend for a gig or two before hurrying back to the big smoke. A short break for lunch, then out to Browns for Anna's birthday, where Holly met a tall and rather splendid pint of beer.
Dandling Days
Helen and Grandma Sheila help Louis with his sitting up. Louis obliges and takes it in his stride.
Another Damp Friday
The rather moist Scottish summer continues unabated, but we do our best to get out and about when we can. Here's Holly braving the deluge in her new "summer" waterproof, with her new pram (containing Julie the doll, from whom she is inseperable) and playing with her new - already waterlogged - sandpit. I'm worried we're going to wear out the pink pixels in our digital cameras...

Louis and Sasha
A trip to Haddington for yet another birthday party, and Louis was able to share a baby gym with little Sasha.

Three Is A Magic Number
I can't quite believe it. Can Holly really be three years old already? We had a wee party for her on Sunday, with grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins all in attendance, along with Pete, Anna, Leo and Nate. We managed to get outside between showers, where Holly managed test-runs of her sandpit and collossal collection of dolly accoutrements. Click the pic - and sit down - for plenty of pics of the day.
