Baa Baa Black Sheep

A busy Monday for me and the kiddies. We visited a new (to us) soft play centre, Clown Around, in the morning where Holly was rather taken by the trampolines. We experimented with dropping Louis' morning nap but he's really not ready yet and was a bit grouchy except when he was in the ball pit! In the afternoon, it was off to the tried and tested Ceramic Experience; Holly is getting better and better and painting (and concentrating) and Louis loves - you guessed it - the ball pit. Back home for tea, and the welcome sight of Helen to take the kiddies off my hands and shoot a few pre-bed snaps and a nice video. I should be getting commission from Steve Jobs.

No Photos Please!

Sundays are dominated by tidying and cleaning these days, in preparation for our Sunday afternoon viewings (only one couple this week, starting to get nervous ho hum). This week we managed a wee jaunt down to Molly's at Ocean Terminal, followed by a visit to Transgression Park, Edinburgh's hot new skate/BMX venue. Holly and Louis are both more than somewhat intrigued by the various X-treme activities on view, and Holly enjoys taking pictures too, but she didn't fancy having her own picture taken. We also paused for a rest on the massage chairs.

A Bracing Stroll

Saturday, and in the morning we visited Skye and Jasmin, and took a wee stroll up the lower slopes of Arthur's Seat to St Anthony's Chapel. There was a rather brisk East wind though, and we soon retreated to the warmth of Skye and Jasmin's house where a salad spinner was the source of much fascination, especially for the wee ones. Later that day, we headed off to see Leo and Nate and their new dining kitchen conversion. Holly took a moment to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine on the deck.

Scottish Seaside Stoics

Monday, and with some glorious blue skies visible out the front door as we waved Helen off to work, we decided to embark on a seaside trip. So after Louis' morning nap we drove down to Yellowcraig where - in typical East Lothian fashion - the sun was shining and all was glorious. In typical April fashion however, there was also a chilly breeze coming off the sea. And so it was that we re-enacted the archetypal Scottish beach scene - sun, sea, sand and that extra ingredient - the winter coat. Holly and Louis had a good time though, we made sandcastles and drew mermaids, Louis ate some sand, Holly went paddling, and we found a sheltered spot and had a picnic lunch during which Holly scaled a nearby dune to chase seagulls and watch someone flying a kite. Great fun. Louis fell asleep on the way home (Holly nearly did too) and I transferred him to his cot without so much as a murmur when we got home. An hour later, and he was still out for the count despite much stomping and opening of curtains. A grand day out. Plus it keeps the house tidy for viewing!

Gentle Touch

I have an iPod touch on loan from work at the moment, for "research" purposes. It's a beautiful device, essentially an iPhone without the phone, and a joy to use. Holly was quite taken by it too, she can cope with the multi-touch UI and watch her favourite movies in widescreen format. This kind of technical marvel will seem so old hat by the time she's a teenager...

Two For The Price Of One

You wait weeks for a birthday, and two come along at once. Our dual birthday began in bed, with us all gathering on the bed to help Helen and Louis open their cards and presents. Pat and John were in town, and took us out to lunch at new local eaterie Porto & Fi. It was very nice. The afternoon, alas, was dominated by showing the house. Only one couple turned up, causing us some concern about how long it'll take to sell this place. Sorrow. But Pat made us dinner in the evening and we quaffed some fizz and dined heartily. Splendid.

Louis' First Lunch

Saturday, and the families gathered at Pizza Express in Leith to celebrate the first 365 days (it's a leap year) of Louis Millar. A fine time was had by all, and Louis particularly enjoyed his chocolate cake. Scott and Niall also documented the happy occasion here and here. You might need to be their flickr "Friends and Family" to see their pictures.

Weird Wednesday
