Came across this on my phone today, after it complained about running out of memory. I think it's from Saturday when we were taking refuge from the cold at Grandma & Papa's. Holly teaches Louis how to bang the drum Papa brought back from Ghana.

Fun With Ceramics
Sunday, and in a continuing attempt to stay warm in February with no central heating, we headed off to the Ceramic Experience where Louis played in the ball pit and Holly worked on a Top Secret special project. Salad for dinner, our fingers are crossed we'll get a gas man tomorrow. I am inevitably put in mind of the Flanders and Swann song The Gas Man Cometh, and await the week ahead with some foreboding...

Chilly Saturday
For the last several weeks we've endured reduced parking, digging noises and holes in the ground outside the house courtesy of Scotland Gas Networks replacing the gas main in the street. On Friday, they needed to turn our gas off for a day to complete the reconnection. Lo and behold, as part of the mandatory reconnection testing, the gaseous factotum announced that there was a "drop" of 4mBar in our household piping and he could thus not turn our gas back on. He trotted off into the night muttering about he hated that part of the job. Next day, and several phone calls to "24 hour" gas services later, we found ourselves at Grandma Sheila's for dinner and a bath. Ho hum.

Growing Up Fast
Louis' mobility is coming on on leaps and bounds, in a lopsided kind of way. Picking the kiddies up from grandma and papa's today, I was presented with this video clip, shot on papa's brand new shiny camera. Note how Louis sits up, gets his bearings, and heads straight for the stairs. Oh dear, he's going to be trouble.
As if that wasn't enough, this evening just before bathtime he pulled himself up to the standing position at the coffee table, and seemed to be taking an interest in the computer. I launched AlphaBaby and let him loose. The keyboard will never be the same.

Weekend Follow-up
A few more pictures of the weekend as a whole - Louis napping on Friday and all dressed up for a walk to Tesco on Saturday. Holly and Leo creating havoc in her bedroom on Sunday when we couldn't go swimming due to someone - erm - contaminating the pool with some unspecified bodily ejecta. And then Monday, when Holly, Louis and I popped over to see how Grandma Sheila was getting on with Calum, and to let Holly and Calum have a nice play together in the un-seasonable sunshine. A very nice afternoon.

I Can Hear Bagpipes!
Saturday afternoon, and we headed into town. Wouldn't you know it, the Ross Fountain has no water in it at the moment, so Holly took the opportunity to investigate. I shot a wee bit of low-quality phone video of her running around. I particularly like the way she pauses to hop over the puddle on the second lap...

Puncture Repairs
Saturday, and while Louis slept and Helen was having her hair cut, Holly and I watched Balamory. Wouldn't you know it, in this episode PC Plum got a puncture in his bicycle tyre, and that reminded me I had a puncture of my own to fix. Holly and I set about it, and Holly was a great wee help pumping and looking for bubbles and sticking. She even gave Helen a detailed blow-by-blow (pun intended) account when she returned.

Girl Only Dancing
Grandma Sheila had the kiddies on her own this Wednesday, as Papa is in Ghana showing the good people of Kwamebikrom how to use their computers. She was descended upon by a full squadron of Millars (and one honorary Millar) offering help. You'd think these children were hard work or something! Anyhoo, Scott took some pictures, you can view them here.

Chilly Monday
Monday, and after Holly did a bit of painting during Louis' nap we headed out for a walk. I underestimated how cold it was. The poor wee nippers got a bit chilly, but still managed to smile through it all. We went to B&Q to buy a nice big bottle of PVA, the adhesive favoured by Mister Maker, Holly's favourite programme on CBeebies.
Winter Sports
Sunday, and we visited X-Scape in Braehead for a spot of indoor tobogganing with Evie and the Dawsons. Holly got helmeted up, then hesitated when she stepped into the vast, cold arena. She was a bit cautious at first, then saw the other kiddies descending on the (real) snow slope and announced "that doesn't look scary at all!" We managed a couple of runs before her boots filled up with snow and her feet got cold. We'll manage more next time, I'm sure. I also managed a bit of skiing, it was fun for quarter of an hour but the slope is - erm - somewhat limited. Nice to see the spirit of Scottish skiing being kept alive by the long and slow-moving lift queue though...
Skye Comes To Visit
Saturday, and we had a wee visit from Skye. There was some minor contention about what the afternoon's activities should be, then they settled down to watch The Jungle Book, before heading out to the park to catch the last of the unseasonable sunshine. Sarah brought Jasmin round for tea, and chocolate was enjoyed by all present.

Another Lie-In
February is really looking up. Another lie-in until 8am this morning (a 4am feed for Louis notwithstanding), and swimming at Leith Waterworld in the morning. Holly had a tremendously good time playing in the waves with Olivia. After lunch, Grandma Pat took over and gave Helen and I the afternoon off. We looked at a house for sale which may well fit the bill then went to see St Trinians - which was pretty dire. It was all that was on at the time, and to be fair I suspect I'm not the target audience. All this independent activity only left getting-up time and bathtime to document the day, so here are a couple of snaps. Please note, you'll need to be signed-in to your flickr account (it's free) and be labelled as our Friends or Family to see the bathtime pictures...
Sasquatch Won't You Come On Down
I found this video clip from last week - I have no idea where Holly learned this one, and Sasquatch seems an unlikely subject for a nursery song. I love the way she over-emphasises the words when she's singing.

New Month, New Photos
Well, it's official. January is over, and things are going to get better in February. We even got a family lie-in until 8am today. Bliss! Grandma Pat's in town too, so there's talk - whisper it - of Helen and I getting a wee bit of time to ourselves tomorrow, we might get a Sunday paper, or see a movie or sit in a pub, or just... I don't know, just do *nothing* for a while. In the meantime, here are a few shonky phone pictures of Holly enjoying The Bear Necessities on the iPod, and trying on a 16th Century (probably) dress at the Museum of Scotland.
