Weekend Roundup

The theme of the weekend for Holly and Louis was most definitely playing happily together. From reading on the settee to getting dressed, to pottering in the garden, they're very happy in each other's company. Long may it last! This weekend was glorious, we got out and about on foot and by bicycle, and even managed a two-wheeled visit to the pub on Sunday afternoon. Not only that, Helen and I went out for a curry on Saturday night for the first time since the cretaceous era. We went to 9 Cellars, an odd room (or set of rooms) but rather fine food if you're in the market for a curry in Edinburgh.

Bus To The Museum

Holly and Louis both enjoyed last week's museum visit, so we did it all again, but took a bus this time. We sat at the front in the bright spring sunshine, and Holly pulled faces while I tried to take pictures. There was still a fairly stiff breeze, so up on the roof of the museum both kids were running and skipping around like skittish horses. Back inside we had the usual dressing up and mucking about, then on the return journey Louis fell asleep on my shoulder and I put him straight to bed when we got home. Needless to say he was grouchy as anything when I woke him up an hour later...

Rugby Addendum

Pater has posted a video of Calum's semi-final match from yesterday. You may be able to hear Holly shout encouragement, although she was unusually quiet on the subject at the time.

Mother's Day

Preparations began on Saturday, with Holly and I making chocolate balls for Helen. Sunday morning saw Holly out in the garden in her jammies, cutting daffodils for Helen's breakfast bouquet. Meanwhile, Louis was in the garage, figuring out how to get at the bikes I've hung up to stop them falling on him as he tries to climb on. Breakfast (not pictured) was hot croissants and jam, then we headed off to Inverleith Park for our regular Sunday rendezvous with the Evanses. It was windy and we soon retreated for a coffee before popping round to see Calum play in the Edinburgh Accies mini rugby tournament. His team were knocked out in the semi-final. We didn't take any pictures but it was all very exciting.

Silverknowes Sunday

IMG_2429.JPG

Last weekend, I swapped Holly's stabilisers for a slightly larger pair, which made her bike considerably more - erm - stable. With her confidence suitably boosted, we headed down to the promenade at Silverknowes, where Holly pedalled all the way from the car park to the ice cream van. We didn't manage to take any pictures of that part, but having recovered from all that effort with the help of an ice cream, Holly discovered a hollow tree to explore. Louis, in the meantime, was much more interested in Holly's bike than his own...

Snowy Flashback

Spring seems to have arrived this week, with blue skies, mild temperatures and light breezes pretty much the norm. How odd then, to be sifting through the cameras and finding these pictures from just a fortnight ago. Seems like a whole different season...

Artworks

Holly and I decided to scan a few of her recent drawings and things, mostly from nursery. It's a wee experiment, but it's nice to record some of her work I think. There's one of Louis' in there too. The photo titles are Holly's own, and in the style of modern artists everywhere, may or may not add significantly to your comprehension of the piece.

Ye Ancient Pagan Rites of Ye Pyne Cone

Niall has just posted this video clip of Holly at the house in Comrie last weekend, leading some suggestible grownups in exercise around a pile of pine cones.

Serendipity

Helen lost her phone last weekend, probably at the house in Comrie. This weekend we dug up an old handset for her to use in the meantime. Lo and behold, it's full of pictures from 2007, from soon after Louis' birth to later on in the summer. It's not even two years ago, but seems like another world. And - it seems like a betrayal to say it - Louis wasn't quite such a beautiful baby as we remember!
