A happy confluence of events; birthday lunch, a beautiful proper summer's day, and the seaside. We gathered at the Espy in Portobello in honour of Scott's umpteenth birthday, and even afterwards it was still balmy enough to splash around, dig holes and play cricket on the beach until bedtime. All afternoons should be like this.
Oh, and Scott and Michelle have some pics here too.

BMX Bandits Redux
BMX Bandits Redux, a set on Flickr.
We had Isla to visit yesterday. She brought her bike and we all rode down to the BMX track where I failed to get a picture of her. The usual suspects are represented though...

Victoria Day
We in Scotland share a public holiday on Victoria Day with Canada and Australia, but not with England it seems. We took the opportunity to do a bit of geocaching at Cammo with Chris, Eloise and Will. We found three caches, and once more proved that kids will walk for miles if they don't realise they're walking. In the afternoon, Holly visited chez Eloise while Louis, Will and I visited the BMX track to work on our cornering skills. The sun shone blissfully throughout, hinting at balmy summer days to come. None of this helps explain the public holiday, but with all due respect to Victorias Pendleton, Beckham and Principal, we were - unlike the queen for which it is surely named - most amused.

Green & Blue
A long-overdue return to Glentress today, with the Earnshaws. Louis and Oliver race around the place with much bravado, Louis only slightly hampered by only having one gear. Holly is more cautious, but stronger on the climbs, and is getting the hang of the bumpy stuff. It was a lovely sunny day, which helped. During a speedy descent of Berm Baby Berm, both Holly and Louis lost control just as I took their pictures! They survived to tell the tale though.

Champions Redux
If it's May, it must be time for the Great Drumtochty Challenge. The weather was dismal last week, and Keith and I *really* weren't looking forward to it. On the day, the rain held off (though the wind didn't) and we won our category (Old Geezers) again, coming second overall this time! It's a long day out, 58km and 1265m of climbing over 5 hours, but well worth it again, and we have a voucher to spend in Escape Route in Pitlochry. Keith even made a wee movie of me crossing a raging torrent at high speed:

Wanted - Escaped Prisoner
Now that he's five, it's time for Louis to get a new passport. He's been travelling on a baby passport since he was three months old, and he looks a *little* different now. Here's the picture I took of him with his "passport face" on. Good to see it's not just adults that look like criminals in their passport pictures.

Sleepy Cyclist
Louis and I are now well-established in our Wednesday cycle commuting routine. We ride the three or so miles over to Grandma Sheila's together, and once in a while Louis will ride back again too. Today wasn't one of those days, he was a tired wee lad and fell asleep in the trailer on the way home...
