The next phase of Holly's Birthday 2012 happened at Kiss The Fish in Stockbridge, where Holly a few of her pals made decopatch animals before tucking into the traditional pizza, sarnies and birthday cake. Mere hours later, I rushed home from work to witness the opening of the post-Fish pressies.

The Truth Of Sport...

... plays rings around you, or thus quoth the mighty Yes on Going For The One. I'm not sure they were talking about school sports days, but should you really chase so hard? Holly's sports day finally happened on a glorious Wednesday morning after being postponed from the previous week. I took the opportunity to skive off work for an hour and snap a few pics of the first three "events".

BOGOF

You wait months for a birthday, and two come along at once. We'll be in sunny Spain for Holly's birthday this year, so we took the opportunity to have a joint family get-together in honour of her and Grandma Sheila's birthdays. We'd planned a barbecue, so inevitably it rained - I barbecued in the garage doorway so the bikes all now have a nice smoky bouquet.

Dirty Boy

One of the by-products of all this June rain is a collection of rather splendid puddles on the BMX track. The kids were going stir crazy on Saturday, so I took them out cycling in the rain. Louis embraced the puddles and the opportunity to get soaked and filthy, Holly and I looked on in (slightly damp) amusement.

It's a jellyfish.

Made of jelly.

Epic Ride

In honour of 600 years of Queen or something, we all had the day off today. We spent the day post-camping pottering, then cycled to the pub with Paula and Dave. We took the "epic" 2.5 mile route from D Mains to the Cramond Brig, where they were a tad overwhelmed by jubilee diners. Luckily we weren't in a hurry, and tootled back in plenty of time for the kids' bathtime. Back to real life tomorrow, alas.

Camping It Up, a set on Flickr.

Our family tent had its long overdue début this weekend, with a 24-hour trip with the Stirlings to a top-secret spot we used to visit pre-kids. Original plan was to use a campsite, but wild camping is so much more fun, not least because you can burn things. Kids enjoyed the extra autonomy, and had many outings and adventures among the dunes and rock pools. After waking at 4:30 am, we did a spot of geocaching and kite flying before breakfast, then struck camp and headed back to civilisation, filthy and reeking of wood smoke.
