Well, I scrounged a "pre-owned" hard disk from someone at work, dug out my tiny screwdrivers, and sat down for a couple of hours to wrestle with the innards of the ol' not-so-reliable G4 iBook. Lo and behold, it sprang back to life and is chuntering merrily on my lap as we speak.
