Platform One

Now that we've moved into our new bedroom, the old one gets a lick of paint and a platform bed, and Holly has a proper room of her own since the first time since we moved in 2008!

On a side note, this is my 1000th family blog post. The first one looked like this.

Cedar cladding is going in under the roof, and the roughcasting (aka harling) is done on the dormer.

A new window, more plasterboard, and plastering begins!

In which the tiling continues, the dormer gets its breathable membrane, and the plasterboard goes up inside, pretty much defining the final shape of the interior.

Further developments. The insulation, Velux windows and plasterboard are in place on the inside, new slates on the outside.

In which the interior starts to take shape, and the new bathroom windaes go in.

The old roof was finally "knocked through," giving our first sense of how big the new interior space was going to be. Also removed the old kitchen skylight and put in the first of the electrics.

More woodwork, the dormer is taking shape and the wooden cladding is on. We're starting to get a sense of the interior shape but it's still pretty far from weatherproof.

We have steel, which means that the exterior framework is taking shape.

Scaffolding's up, the beginnings of the new ridge line are in place, and we have a new boiler!

Building works have begun - they've stripped out the stud walls and roof lining from the existing loft space, and already it feels a *lot* brighter and more open, which bodes well.

Before

Today, in anticipation of works beginning on the extension to our extension, we cleared out Holly's room. She's been in there since we moved in around her fourth birthday! We're extending the attic conversion out over the kitchen extension, and upstairs will become the domain of the grownups, with a bedroom, dressing room, shower room, and a wee study. Holly will move into our old room, which is also in need of a bit of an upgrade.
